Winner of Moorabool Shire’s Community Event of the Year, the Blackwood Woodchop & Easter Carnival offers an action-packed day out for the whole family. In its milestone 125th year, it features one of the oldest woodchopping competitions in Victoria! The Carnival begins with a street parade, followed by the woodchop & music program, plus loads of fun stuff - gold panning, gumboot throwing, pet show, treasure hunt, kids novelty games & races, face-painting, tug-o-war, market stalls, delicious eats and licensed bars. All at the beautiful Blackwood Recreation Reserve “the prettiest sportsground in Victoria”! Ticket price includes all activities, including woodchop and live music. Notice of Annual General Meeting

The Blackwood Progress Association Inc AGM will be held on Wednesday 26th August 2026, commencing at 7.30pm at the Chapel.

The business of the meeting will include a report on the activities of the Association during the financial year ended 30 June 2026, consideration of all financial statements of the Association for that financial year and approval after consideration; election of members of the Association’s Committee for the next financial year; setting the membership fee for the current year; and discussion of current and future community initiatives and issues that the Association might help with.

To attend the meeting you must be a member of the Association, and we would greatly welcome new members — the annual membership fee is $5. You can simply pay your fee at the start of the meeting, or if you want to join prior to that, by contacting one of the current Committee members (Brendan Hehir, Darren Lynch, Allan Tait, Daniel Barrett, Louise Scott, Deirdre Cronin and Angelko Juresko) or email blackwoodprogress@gmail.com.

Membership and participation in the activities of the Association is a great way to support our local community, so come along and join us (note — you don’t have to join the Committee if you are a member).

The Blackwood Woodchop and Easter Carnival needs more help

It’s about half way between carnivals, still several months before the next carnival and the numerous tasks begin. The 2026 carnival was a great success which the team and the whole town should be proud of.

We had a couple of team members decide not to continue with the organising side going forward, so we are looking for more committed people to step up and help continue this great tradition into its 126th year. Blackwood Annual Easter Woodchop Carnival

Now in its 123rd year, the Blackwood Woodchop and Easter Carnival offers a great family day out set against the gorgeous backdrop of the town of Blackwood.

The Carnival kicks off with the traditional street parade, followed by a woodchop and music, plus gumboot throwing, a pet show, a treasure hunt, kids’ novelty games and races, face-painting, tug-o-war, market stalls, delicious eats and licensed bars.

The Carnival features one of the oldest woodchopping competitions in Victoria and incredible music throughout the day, headlined by legendary Australian western-punk outfit, The Johnnys, who promise a 'rootin' tootin' good time'.

Other acts performing on the day include Aria Award winner Dave Graney and Clare Moore, Rock 'N' Co, The Gordon Gypsies, and local singer songwriter, Paper Cranes.

It all takes place at the beautiful Blackwood Recreation Reserve, “the prettiest sportsground in Victoria”!

Ticket price includes all activities, including woodchop and live music.

Blackwood Woodchop and Easter carnival – Cancelled

If you don’t like the heading, then YOU CAN do something about it! Blackwood progress committee as it currently stands is not organizing the carnival next year. We thank all the volunteers that help on the day but the core volunteer committee team have been over worked and are taking a step back this year with the hope of some fresh community members to take over running Blackwoods largest community event. Current members will of course guide and assist.

Trentham Spudfest has 19 people organizing the event. I am looking for a similar number of people. I currently have 9 people who have committed to help organize the event. Over recent years the event has been organized by Progress which consists of 6 – 7 people. Too few. I am looking for a team of around 20 to organize next years carnival. With a number like this everyone’s workload would be less, and team members would get a manageable job to do. So, if you have questions or ideas on some aspect of the carnival then contact me and join the team.
If you believe that it is a great event and would like to see it continue contact me to help keep the carnival going. If you join your commitment would start late this year and go through to Easter. You would need to complete a specific job in organizing something, and you would either need to attend team meetings or send a status report on how you are progressing.
